BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The pool of applicants for the Bismarck police chief position has been narrowed to five.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that Bismarck Police Lt. Randy Ziegler is among the remaining candidates. The rest are from Hawaii, Iowa, California and Ohio.

City Commissioner Parrell Grossman says the candidates will go through two more screenings in the coming weeks before finalists are chosen to be interviewed in person by the City Commission.

The city is seeking a successor to Chief Keith Witt, who is retiring in the spring.
