Letter to the editor: Sun should not print scores from youth sporting events

Recently there seems to be a lot of emphasis in The Sun about improving sports in Jamestown and to lower the dropout rates of kids who are currently in sports.

Recently there seems to be a lot of emphasis in The Sun about improving sports in Jamestown and to lower the dropout rates of kids who are currently in sports.

I don’t know if this is related but there is a fifth grade boys’ basketball team that trounces other fifth grade teams at various tournaments. There is nothing wrong with this but I feel there is something wrong with publishing the scores along with the submitted photo. I don’t think the opposing teams need to be humiliated even more by seeing the scores printed in the newspaper. These kids are 11 years old. If the kids won’t remember the scores, the parents more than likely will. I don’t know who submitted the article.

On March 14 there was a picture of the fifth grade WolfPack team, which won a recent tournament. No mention of the teams that they beat or the scores. Congratulations to John Kleven, the coach of the WolfPack, for a class act.
