The Jamestown High School track and field teams combined for 18 first-place finishes in a dual with Lisbon on Thursday.
It was the second time the Blue Jays have gotten outside in what is supposed to the indoor season.
The JHS girls piled up 12 first-place efforts led by Alison Allmer’s state-qualifying time of 5:20.02 in the mile where she is the defending state champion. It was the second qualifying effort for the girls so far.
“This is the first time we’ve had two girls qualify in March, but we’ve never had outdoor meets in March so it’s new in a lot of ways, but it’s exciting,” said JHS girls’ coach Arnie Falk. “It was a good meet for our kids. It was good to get outside. It’s a lot better than a practice, so we’re pleased.”
The Blue Jays swept the running events as McKayla Orr (100), Allie Smith (200), Siri Jystad (400), Jane Tang (800) and Allmer (mile) earned wins.
The jumps were also all Jays as Jenna Stilwell swept the triple and high jumps and Orr took the long.
They also won all three relays.
Kelsey Urquhart led the throwing contingent with a winning mark of 33-10.25 in the shot.
Five different boys won events for the Blue Jays against the Broncos.
Michael Hust led a 1-2-3-4-5 JHS finish in the 200 with a time of 24.49.
Jake Nieland cleared the field by nearly three seconds in the 800.
Matt Kopp won the 100 hurdles and placed second in the 200 hurdles.
John Nagel and Nate Purcell each claimed one victory.
Nagel comfortably took the long jump at 19-1.50.
Purcell’s 131-80 in the discus led everybody.
The Blue Jays won the 800 relay, while Lisbon took the other two.
The Broncos’ Zach Ulmer (400, 200 hurdles) was the lone double-winner.
Team scores were not kept.
The Blue Jays will compete in Fargo next weekend. If the weather stays nice, they’ll have the state indoor meet outside on March 31. If conditions warrant being inside, they’ll compete at the BSA March 30.
