Detective Jason Falk of the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office was presented with the prestigious Colonel’s Coin from the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Falk was presented by the award by Col. James Prochniak Friday morning at a ceremony at the Law Enforcement Center.

The award is given to civilians and law enforcement officers who go out of their way to serve and protect.

To receive the Colonel’s Coin, a nomination form has to be completed and sent to the superintendent of the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Then Prochniak has to review the materials and decide if it’s deserving of the award.

Falk was nominated by Sgt. Josh Rude, with the NDHP, for his involvement in a standoff that ended up on the streets of Jamestown on Nov. 30, 2011.

“He was right there right away when it went to a foot pursuit,” Rude said.

NDHP engaged the suspect on Interstate 94. He eventually made his way downtown when Falk was on the scene immediately.

“I think he may have actually saved this guy’s life,” Rude said.
