Erie Bragg and Christina Zamora each placed for the Jimmie women’s wrestling team at the USA Wrestling University Nationals in Oklahoma City on Saturday.
Bragg, a senior from Carrollton, Texas, placed second at 77 kilograms.
Bragg, who fought injuries during the season, won her first two matches by decision to earn a spot in the title match against Mei Ling Keiki, a national champion, but lost by fall.
Zamora, a redshirt sophomore from Orange County, Calif., had a busy meet at 64 kgs.
Zamora ran off three straight wins to start the tournament, all by narrow margins against quality opponents, to move into the winner’s bracket. She dropped her final three matches, but still earned a sixth-place finish.
Nichole Yarrington, Catherine Kelly and Shai Mason also competed in the meet for the Jimmies.
Yarrington, a junior, faced All-Americans in both of her first two matches, but hung around and lost competitive showdowns each time. She suffered the same fate in her final match, losing 4-2, 6-0.
Kelly dropped both of her matches at 55 kg, while Mason also went 0-2 in the meet. Both are freshman on coach Tony DeAnda’s roster.
The winners of each weight division advanced to the U.S. Olympic Trials in Iowa City April 20-21.
