New Jamestown Police Department Chief Scott Edinger spoke at the March 20 Rotary Club meeting.

Edinger has Jamestown roots, even though he grew up in Lusk, Wyo. He spent his summer and school vacations here in Jamestown. He loved to hunt and fish and when the opportunity opened for a job at the Jamestown Police Department, he jumped at the opportunity and has been here since 1994.

Edinger started as a patrolman and then transferred into the Special Operations Division. During his time in Special Ops he was able to attend many special training schools put on by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National Fire Academy. Much of the training he was able to attend was made available through Homeland Security Grants.

Edinger said he hopes the Homeland Security Department will continue funding these grants into the future. He said he has an excellent staff that looks after the safety and well-being of the community.

Doug Frohlich presided over the meeting. Mark Sherfy gave the invocation, helping with the music was Gina Dahl and Gary Riffe collected “Happy Dollars” for Rotary projects. Student guests were Beth Jenson and Jana Lynch, juniors at Jamestown High School.

Frohlich reminded members of the upcoming District Conference April 12-15 in Cloquet, Minn. He also asked the members to complete a survey.

The “Wine and Brew Ha Ha” tasting event and silent auction will be April 19 at the Gladstone Inn & Suites. Tickets are available from Rotary members. Tickets may also be purchased at the door, at Unison Bank or at U.S. Bank.

At today’s meeting, Sherfy will be the song leader and Nick Schmidt will be the sergeant at arms.
