Essentia Health patients in the Jamestown and Valley City areas can email their doctor’s office, view lab results and print a list of their children’s immunization records through a new, secure online program called “MyHealth.”

The Essentia MyHealth program is a free online tool that connects patients to portions of their medical records. It’s one of the features of the electronic health record that was recently implemented in Essentia Health facilities in the area. Parents who use MyHealth also can add their children to their accounts, send their care teams emails when they have medical questions, check the results of tests and lab work, view current medications and immunization listings, and request appointments. In addition, for adults with aging parents MyHealth can also serve as a proxy to view and manage their parents’ health care.

“MyHealth offers patients access to their own chart,” said Laura Hovland, Essentia Health Jamestown, Valley City and Medina facility manager. “It’s another way to help keep the patient involved in their care. They will be able to communicate with their provider and be empowered as part of a team in coordination of all of their health needs.”

The service is not for emergencies and doesn’t replace all phone calls. However, MyHealth is an opportunity to eliminate the “telephone tag” that can occur between patients and their doctors’ offices. Patients can also use the program to request appointments, keep updated medication lists, and monitor health trends over time, such as weight and blood pressure. Patients are also able to send email messages to their primary care providers as well as their specialists.

Patients who see providers at clinics in the Fargo-Moorhead area, Park Rapids, Wahpeton, Jamestown, Valley City, Medina, Lisbon and Casselton can sign up for the service.
