BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota bighorn sheep hunting license sold at auction raised $42,000 for sheep management in the state.

The North Dakota Game and Fish Department auctions one bighorn license each year. This year's auction was earlier this month in Bloomington, Minn., during the annual fundraiser and banquet of the Midwest Chapter of the Wild Sheep Foundation.

In 2011, the North Dakota license sold for $41,000. Since 1986, the program has raised nearly $1 million for sheep conservation.
