SD governor says China trade mission productive

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Gov. Dennis Daugaard says he believes this week's trade mission to China should give South Dakota businesses a chance to export more products to the world's most populous nation.

Daugaard spoke by telephone Wednesday from Shanghai to South Dakota news organizations. He says even though China has the world's largest population, it needs to import food.

Daugaard says South Dakota can provide the soybeans, pork and other food products China wants. He says China also is interested in dried distiller's grain, a product of ethanol production that is used as livestock feed.

The governor and other state officials were accompanied on the trip by representatives of several South Dakota businesses that produce mining equipment, duct-cleaning equipment, pork and wine. The North Dakota Trade Office helped with the trip.
