DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) — A county sheriff in western North Dakota is being investigated for an alleged theft that he calls an “honest mistake.”
Stark County Commission Chairman Ken Zander tells The Dickinson Press that city police brought information to the state's attorney about a theft that appeared to involve Sheriff Clarence Tuhy (TOO’-ee). Tuhy says the alleged theft at a nonprofit that distributes donations to the needy is an unfortunate misunderstanding.
Neither he nor Zander would provide details. State's Attorney Tom Henning says the state crime bureau looked into the matter and sent a report to the state attorney general's office. A spokeswoman there declined comment.
County commissioners also decided last week to have an outside firm look into allegations of a hostile work environment in the sheriff's office.
