ND GOP convention popular despite challenges
North Dakota Republicans are expecting a crowd at their weekend convention, even though two of the party's candidates won't be campaigning there.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Republicans are expecting a crowd at their weekend convention, even though two of the party's candidates won't be campaigning there.
Republican spokesman Matt Becker says more than 1,700 delegates have registered for the Bismarck convention.
That's the most in a dozen years. In 2000, more than 2,000 delegates showed up for the GOP convention in Fargo.
Republicans will be picking favored candidates for eight offices. Four of the races will be contested.
U.S. Senate candidate Duane Sand says he won't be challenging Rick Berg for the Senate endorsement. Sand says he'll be running in the June primary instead.
House candidate Kevin Cramer also plans to run in the primary. Five other House hopefuls are competing for the convention endorsement.
