This symbolism is a remembrance of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem with the crowds waving of palm branches and singing. After the service, participants are encouraged to take their palm branches home and display them in a prominent place as a reminder during the upcoming year of this special day in Jesus’ life.
Holy week observances will continue with Maundy Thursday services at 6:45 p.m. April 5, including Holy Communion. First-time communicants will also celebrate the Lord’s Supper. At the close of the service. the traditional “stripping of the Altar” will be observed, symbolizing Jesus’ humiliation by the soldiers and crowds leading up to his crucifixion. Participants are encouraged to leave in silence.
The congregation of Immanuel invites the public to attend these services. Immanuel Lutheran Church is located next to Gardenette Housing in southeast Jamestown. The building is accessible with no steps for the physically challenged.
