FARGO (AP) — The man who died in the Red River while trying to elude Fargo police was wanted in Minnesota on burglary charges.
The Forum reported court records show an active Clay County warrant for the arrest of 23-year-old Steven Franek of Moorhead, Minn., in connection with the March 2011 burglaries of four garage units.
Fargo police said Franek on Wednesday fled from an officer investigating a report of a suspicious person, jumped in the river on the North Dakota side and tried unsuccessfully to cross to the Minnesota side. A dive team recovered his body.
Father Steve Franek said his son was engaged to be married and had a baby on the way. He says his son was a good person who “started going down a little troubled road.”
