JHS hockey players earn bravos this week

The Jamestown Sun hands out these bravos this week:

*Bravo to the organizers and participants of the Polar Plunge last week in Jamestown. Nineteen people took the plunge on March 24 to raise funds for Special Olympics.

*Bravo to Amber Schaack and Mataya Olson, Jamestown High School hockey players selected for the all-state team. Schaack had 48 points for the Blue Jays this season, was seventh in the state in scoring and was also named to the all-tournament team. Olson had 23 points.

*Bravo to Detective Jason Falk with the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office, who received special recognition from the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Falk was presented with the Colonel’s Coin, given to civilians and law enforcement officers who go out of their way to serve and protect. Falk received the recognition for his work during a standoff in Jamestown on Nov. 30, 2011.

*Bravo to the participants in the Business Leaders Chili Cook-off Contest, who raised funds for the Meals on Wheels program at the James River Senior and Community Center. Twenty businesses were represented at the event, with the public sampling the chili for $5 a person.

*Bravo to those people and organizations that have assisted Arnold Simon, an 82-year-old rural New England, N.D., farmer, who lost his home to a fire March 19. Simon received a placed to stay from a local business, a trailer from another until he can find permanent lodging, and the Red Cross also helped him financially so he could have clothing, food and other essentials. Neighbors also fed his cattle.
