BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Longtime North Dakota state auditor Robert R. Peterson has Republican backing for his fifth term.
A Peterson has held the job since 1972. The incumbent's father retired in 1996 after holding the position for 24 years. Robert R. Peterson was elected to take his place.
North Dakota Republican convention delegates unanimously endorsed Peterson on Saturday to run for re-election. Peterson did not have any opposition.
Peterson says he's tried to keep the office “professional and progressive,” and use audit recommendations to help state agencies do a better job.
North Dakota Democrats have endorsed Fargo state Rep. Scot Kelsh to run against Peterson. Kelsh is a Fargo firefighter, and a former assistant North Dakota House Democratic leader.
