Baucus: EPA head to visit Bakken oil fields
U.S. Sen. Max Baucus says the head of the Environmental Protection Agency has agreed to visit eastern Montana to talk about regulations for the oil and gas industry.
BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Max Baucus says the head of the Environmental Protection Agency has agreed to visit eastern Montana to talk about regulations for the oil and gas industry.
Baucus, a Democrat, said Tuesday that he invited to EPA administrator Lisa Jackson at the request of eastern Montana officials concerned the agency's actions could dampen energy development.
Drilling in the Bakken oil fields along the Montana-North Dakota border has been booming in recent years. To date most of the activity has been in North Dakota, but drilling in Montana is projected to expand in the near future.
A date for Jackson's trip has not been announced. Baucus’ office says it will likely be in May.
