DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) — Devils Lake’s west-end floodwater diversion outlet is up and running for the season.
State Engineer Todd Sando told KZZY radio that the outlet starting moving excess lake water into the Sheyenne River on Monday and should be running at capacity by the end of the month. That is when two pumps will be back from a facility in California where they were sent for repairs last November.
Sando said it is the earliest the outlet has ever been ramped up. He said the past several years, the outlet typically hasn’t started operating until late May.
The outlet ran at less than capacity for much of last season, taking a couple of inches of water off the flooded lake.
