Man killed in train collision identified

The Highway Patrol has identified a Sawyer man killed in a fiery collision between his semi-truck and a train in northern North Dakota.

PORTAL, N.D. (AP) — The Highway Patrol has identified a Sawyer man killed in a fiery collision between his semi-truck and a train in northern North Dakota.

Authorities said 50-year-old Kevin Sys was driving a semi-truck and trailer northeast on a dirt road when he failed to stop at a railroad crossing and collided with a southeast-bound Canadian Pacific train. The crash occurred about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday near Sawyer.

Firefighters from Velva and Sawyer were called to the scene to extinguish a fire ignited by the fuel tank.
