All systems were a go for the Jamestown Blue Jay baseball team at Charlie Brown Field in Valley City on Thursday.
JHS racked up 21 total hits and pushed 36 runs across the plate, as it was all Blue Jays in a pair of five-inning contests against the Hi-Liners to open the 2012 high school baseball season.
The Jays cruised 14-1 in the opener, and went on to a 22-1 victory in the nightcap to start the season 2-0 overall.
“Valley City was a little shorthanded today, and we played pretty solid baseball and obviously offensively we did some really good things,” JHS coach Cory Anderson. “Tyler (Krenz) and Brady (Anderson) also threw well for us. It was a good all-around team effort.”
Valley City won’t have much time to regroup, as they’ll be facing Jamestown again at Jack Brown Stadium on Easter Monday.
“It was nice to get out and get some work under our belts,” Anderson said. “There’s still a lot of improvement that needs to take place, but it was still a good starting point.”

The Blue Jays scored six times in the top of the first, and it was all downhill from there.
Jamestown senior starting pitcher Tyler Krenz was in control, allowing six hits and striking out five en route to the victory. Krenz also didn’t allow a walk in 10 batters faced.
Jamestown’s Jake Stilwell went a solid 3-for-4 at the plate from the cleanup spot, driving in 4 runs and scoring 4 runs while also smacking a triple. Cody Benson went a perfect 2-for-2 at the dish with an RBI.
Leading 9-1 after two innings, Jamestown effectively ended things with a five-run top of the fourth.
From the 3-hole, Brady Anderson went 1-for-3 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs, Riley Schafer picked up a double and 2 RBIs in three at-bats, and Danny Fischer went 1-for-3 with a pair of walks and 3 runs scored from the leadoff spot.

The Blue Jays scored 22 times in the game No. 2, but if senior Brady Anderson continues to hurl like the way he did on Thursday, the Jays’ offense won’t need to be nearly as explosive.
Anderson faced just 20 batters, but he struck on 12 of them and gave up just 2 hits to the Hi-Liners in the five-inning rout. He also had another monster game at the plate, going 4-for-5 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
In the two games, Anderson collected 5 total hits, with a triple, a double, 5 RBIs, and 4 runs.
Jamestown sophomore Landon Weiser also had a nice game, batting 2-for-4 with 4 runs scored and 2 RBIs. The Jays scored 5 in first, 2 in the second and 10 in the third to blow it open.
Stilwell went 1-for-2 at the dish with 3 RBIs and 3 runs, Anthony Cook went 1-for-4 with 2 RBIs and a run scored, and Riley Schafer scored three runs in the ball game.
