Optimist Club cites athletes for awards

McKayla Orr and Jordan Thoreson of Jamestown High School and Jamestown College’s Christina Zamora and Trent Roemmich have been named Athletes of the Week by the Jamestown Optimist Club.

McKayla Orr and Jordan Thoreson of Jamestown High School and Jamestown College’s Christina Zamora and Trent Roemmich have been named Athletes of the Week by the Jamestown Optimist Club.

Orr, a sophomore on the JHS track team, won the 100, 200 and long jump at the Fargo South Quadrangular. She was also fourth in the triple jump.

Thoreson, a senior on the JHS track team, placed second in the discus and third in the shot at the Fargo Quadrangular.

Zamora, a sophomore from Orange County, Calif., on the Jimmie women’s wrestling team, went 3-1 to place second at the final Olympic Trials qualifier in Des Moines Iowa. She’ll compete in the Olympic Trials April 20-22 in Iowa City.

Roemmich, a sophomore on the JC men’s track team, qualified for nationals in the 400 hurdles with a time of 54.12 at the Blue Hawk Open in Dickinson, placing second. He also ran a leg on the second-place 4x100 relay.
