Counties to vote on township’s future

Some rural residents seeking to secede from Cass County have submitted enough petition signatures to bring the matter to a public vote later this year.

FARGO (AP) — Some rural residents seeking to secede from Cass County have submitted enough petition signatures to bring the matter to a public vote later this year.

The residents in Pleasant Township want annexation to Richland County because they do not believe Cass County leaders are listening to their concerns on flood control issues. Cass County Administrator Keith Berndt disputes that.

A majority of voters in both counties must approve the measure in order for the township to move from Cass to Richland. People in Richland County will vote in June, and Cass County residents will vote in November
