FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota Racing Commission has agreed to allow Fargo to host two weekends of horse racing this summer, after supporters announced they had raised enough money for a second weekend.
The Racing Commission had approved the first weekend in February. Horse Race North Dakota President Wes Heinert tells The Forum newspaper that a simulcast company has agreed to pay $360,000 in operational costs for a second weekend of racing at the North Dakota Horse Park.
The races are set for July 14-15 and July 21-22.
Horse races in Fargo were put on hold after 2009 because of financial problems. The North Dakota Horse Park Foundation, which owns the track, and Horse Race North Dakota still owe the city of Fargo more than $1.7 million.
