OSHA cites oil company operating in ND oil patch

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is proposing $65,600 in fines for a Wyoming-based oil drilling company operating in western North Dakota's oil patch.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is proposing $65,600 in fines for a Wyoming-based oil drilling company operating in western North Dakota's oil patch.

OSHA has cited Cyclone Drilling Inc. for several violations of safety and health standards for allegedly exposing workers on an oil rig near Ray to electrical, fire and fall hazards.

OSHA spokeswoman Rhonda Burke says no injuries have been tied to the hazards. She says the amount of the proposed fines reflects that Cyclone has been cited for safety violations in Montana and Colorado in recent years.

Cyclone has the right to contest OSHA's findings. Company spokesman Patrick Hladky declined comment.
