The Parent Awareness Center has been active in Jamestown for about a year now. It continues to meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month and have had excellent programs. Parenting is very difficult in today’s world. The Parent Center is an outstanding opportunity for the parents of Jamestown to be educated in some of the issues that are facing our students.

In the last few months the Parent Center has had meetings on cyber-bullying, the DARE program sponsored by Jamestown Public Schools, and what the Human Services Center can do for parents and the community. These are excellent programs that can help parents as they work to assist their most precious commodity, their children, through a very difficult time.

Jamestown Public Schools is committed to continuing to work to have the best possible relationships it can with the parents of our district. Research is very clear; strong school districts have a strong parent-school connection. I know of no substitute for this. The Parent Awareness Center and its programs can only make our schools and our community a better place in which to raise our kids.

I hope that as time goes by, the Parent Awareness Center will be an active organization and educational program for parents. Programs, meeting times and locations are released to the media. The next meeting is April 24. I hope that we will have a large turnout of parents. It always helps to be more informed.

For questions or more information, please call my office. On behalf of everyone connected to the Parent Center, I hope many more parents will take the opportunity to get involved and educate themselves on the many issues facing young people today.
