Fargo bank hit with overdraft fees lawsuit

An Underwood woman claims Gate City Bank has forced her and other customers to run up unnecessary overdraft charges.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — An Underwood woman claims Gate City Bank has forced her and other customers to run up unnecessary overdraft charges.

Amber Pieloor has filed a lawsuit in federal district court. She wants it to be expanded to include other Gate City customers who she says were treated the same way.

Pieloor uses a Gate City debit card that takes money out of her bank account.

She claims when Gate City processes the charges, they're put in a different order. She contends this makes her account run out of money more quickly, and the bank collects more overdraft fees.

Her lawyer says more than $5 million is at stake for all affected customers.

Gate City President Steve Swiontek (SWAN’-tek) says the lawsuit is wrong and the company will fight it.
