ND aviation parts company eyes Colombia expansion
A Fargo aviation parts company that sells helicopter equipment to Colombia to help in the war on drugs is looking to expand its business in the South American country.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A Fargo aviation parts company that sells helicopter equipment to Colombia to help in the war on drugs is looking to expand its business in the South American country.
Dakota Air Parts sells aircraft, turbine engines and spare parts to buyers in about 30 countries. Its business in Colombia has been limited mostly to government buyers — until now.
Company president Barbara McConn says the recent U.S.-Colombia free trade agreement will eliminate tariffs and help Dakota Air Parts compete in the commercial helicopter market.
McConn was one of several Fargo-area business leaders who met with international marketing experts this week to discuss an October trade mission to Colombia.
Heather Ranck, North Dakota director of the U.S. Commercial Service, says a six-month head start is needed to research trade opportunities.
