Jimmies split, then snowed out

The Jamestown College softball team split a twinbill against the University of Great Falls Argos at Great Falls, Mont., on Saturday. The Jimmies were scheduled to play a second doubleheader vs. the Argos on Sunday, but the games were cancelled due to snow.

The Jamestown College softball team split a twinbill against the University of Great Falls Argos at Great Falls, Mont., on Saturday.

The Jimmies were scheduled to play a second doubleheader vs. the Argos on Sunday, but the games were cancelled due to snow.

Jamestown College (19-16) will be at MSU-Moorhead for a pair of games on Wednesday, before wrapping up the week with a pair of doubleheaders vs. Dickinson State University at McElroy Park on Saturday and Sunday.

Jimmies 13, Argos 8

Jamestown College’s junior slugging first baseman Kate Johnson clubbed a pair of home runs and drove in a whopping 8 RBIs, as the Jimmies collected 20 hits and pushed 13 runs across the plate in taking down the Argos by five.

Johnson went a solid 4-for-5 at the dish with a pair of runs scored. The Jimmies had a multiple hit day from seven different players. Hattie Fullmer went 3-for-5 and Heather Haegele and Kelsie Jensen each went 2-for-4.

Haegele (3) and Jensen (2) accounted for five of the Jimmies’ 13 runs.

D. J. Johnson picked up the win from the circle for the Jimmies, after reliving Jamestown College starter Jessica Lees in the fourth inning. Lees gave up all 8 runs to the Argos, but Johnson allowed just two hits and struck out 4 over the final 3 1/3 innings.

Argos 6, Jimmies 5

Leading Great Falls 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh, the Argos were able to push two runs across the plate in the final frame to upend the Jimmies by one.

Alex Lowry went deep twice for Great Falls, and Kelsey Jirrels added another home run, as it was another short outing for Jimmie senior starting pitcher Steph Bolt. Bolt gave up 4 earned runs through 3 1/3 on three hits, while striking out 4 and walking 6.

Lowry ended the game with 5 RBIs for the Argos. Haegele went 2-for-3 with 2 runs, Jensen went 2-for-4 with a run and Erica Rush went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Jimmies offensively.
