MINOT (AP) — The State Fair Pond in Minot is closed because of projects stemming from last year’s Souris River flooding but officials say it will reopen on July 20, the opening day of the North Dakota State Fair.

The pond is on the north end of the State Fairgrounds in the state Game and Fish Department’s Conservation and Outdoors Skills Park. Outreach biologist Greg Gullickson said the dock is being repaired, leaving the shoreline as the only fishable area. He said the steep slope of the shore makes it a poor place to fish.

Crews also will be reseeding grass, dredging the pond, moving buildings and dirt.

and repaving walkways.
