The Stutsman County 4-H Communication Arts Contest was held at James Valley Career and Technology Center on April 9.
The Stutsman County 4-H Communication Arts Contest was held at James Valley Career and Technology Center on April 9. Communication arts has four primary objectives to: 1) help youth develop communication skills that are useful throughout a lifetime, 2) provide youth an opportunity to practice their skills before an audience, 3) provide youth an opportunity to gather and organize information, equipment and props for public presentation, 4) develop youth’s confidence in making public presentations.
Youth participants and their placing were:
Humorous Interpretive Reading - Pre-Teen, Seth Kjellberg, Ypsilanti, grand champion; Allison Roorda, Ypsilanti, reserve champion; Teen, Sara Hatlewick, Jamestown, grand champion
Serious Interpretive Reading — Pre-Teen, Katie Osborne, Wimbledon, grand champion
Illustrated Talk — Pre-Teen, Andy Roorda, Ypsilanti, grand champion
Demonstration — Pre-teen, Victoria Christensen, Wimbledon, grand champion
Presentation Software — Pre-Teen Nik Marks, Ypsilanti, grand champion; Seth Kjellberg, Ypsilanti, reserve champion
4-H Promotion — Pre-teen, Seth Kjellberg, Ypsilanti, grand champion
Short Takes — Pre-teen, Mikaela Cofield, James-town, grand champion; Katie Osborne, Wimbledon, reserve champion; Teen, Sara Hatlewick, Jamestown grand champion.
Cloverbud Recitation — Cheyana Marks, Lance Kjellberg, Nate Kjellberg, Ypsilanti, and Louis Kjellberg, Jamestown. This category is non-competitive for 5-7 year old 4-H members.
All participants in the Teen and Pre-teen categories are eligible to compete at the district contest in Foster County May 30.
Jenny Vandehoven and Jason Rohr were contest judges. Deb Hatlewick from the Stutsman County NDSU Extension Office coordinated the event.
