Cardinals split

Peter Henson went all seven innings as Carrington nipped Harvey-Wells County in the first of two Saturday in Harvey.

Henson worked around 12 hits to get the victory in Game 1 for the Cardinals, 5-4, in Region 3 action.

Taylor Skytland and Marcus Hewitt were each 2-for-4 for the Cardinals, who went ahead with 3 runs in the top of the fifth.

Austin Schmidt had a pair of doubles for the Hornets. Evan Nitz and Landon Littlefield also had 2 hits for the Hornets.

Mark Nyhus and Carson Koble combined on a 4-hit shutout in Game 2.

Nyhus had 6 strikeouts over three innings and went 2-for-2 at the plate, including a triple. Shaun Kourajian had a triple and a double for the Hornets.

Kidder County 5-10, Hettinger 4-0

Kidder County won a tight one and a blowout to sweep Hettinger 5-4 and 10-0.

Ben Steinolfson clubbed a 2-run home run in the first inning of Game 1 to help the Pirates with a 5-4 win. Steinolfson went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs in the win.

Tanner Kessel notched 7 strikeouts over 6 innings on the mound for the Pirates to get the win. Ryan Sand finished up for the save.

Kessel and Sand were each 2-for-3 at the plate as well. Both scored two runs, while Kessel added a pair of RBIs.

Chad Mosbrucker scored twice for Hettinger.

Game 2 was all Pirates as they scored 10 runs in innings 2-4 for a 10-0 win.

Nick Thomas was 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored. Travis Boots added 2 hits and had 3 RBIs, while Matt Gross had a hit and scored three of the team’s 10 runs.

Dylan Bitz and Elijah Hilzendeger combined on a 3-hit, 5-inning shutout.

S-NR splits pair

Sheyenne-New Rockford blanked Turtle Mountain and dropped a close game to Larimore on Saturday before rain halted play at a triangular in New Rockford.

Cobey Allmaras fired the second no-hitter in an as many games for the Black Sox in Game 1.

Allmaras did not allow a hit in five shutout innings, striking out 10 Turtle Mountain batters in the win. He also had 2 hits in 4 trips. Jacob Lommen also had 2 hits.

In the second game, Braydon Hofer had 8 strikeouts on the mound and a pair of knocks as the Polar Bears won a rain-shortened 5-inning contest over the Black Sox, 5-4.

Derek Grogan had a 3-hit game for Larimore.

Chance LaBrie had two of the Black Sox four hits as they dropped to 3-2. They travel to Binford to face Midkota today.
