BISMARCK (AP) — Five crest designs have been submitted to the U.S. Navy to consider for the USS North Dakota nuclear submarine being built at two East Coast shipyards.
Officials with the USS North Dakota committee say about 100 drawings were submitted by professional and novice designers.
The Navy and the ship’s crew ultimately will decide on the crest design for the sub, which is to be commissioned in 2014.
The finalists are Scott Raffath of Fargo; Robert Matejek of Clayton, Mo.; Rebekah Wicklund of Fargo; Burdette Calkins of Bismarck; and a combined effort between Gary Erickson of Mayville and Wade Erickson of Fargo.
