Cave sentenced to 11 years on criminal conspiracy charge, 8 years for manslaughter

A Jamestown woman was sentenced to serve 11 years in prison Monday in Southeast District Court for her involvement with a Jamestown man's death.

Janelle Cave, 22, Jamestown, was found guilty of the charges on Feb. 17 in a case involving the death of Abdi Ali Ahmed, 18, Jamestown, on April 30, 2011. Ahmed’s body had been found in a road ditch east of Jamestown. He died of blunt head trauma and also suffered stab wounds.

Judge Thomas E. Merrick sentenced Cave to 11 years in prison on a criminal conspiracy charge and eight years on a manslaughter charge. Cave was given credit for 359 days already served and the two sentences will be served concurrently.

Cave will also serve five years supervised probation after her release from prison and be required to testify in the trial of Leron Lee Howard, 34, Jamestown, who was also charged with murder and criminal

conspiracy in Ahmed's death.

Manslaughter is defined as recklessly causing the death of an individual. It is a Class B felony and punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Criminal conspiracy is a Class AA felony punishable by up to life in prison without parole.
