McIntyre receives educator award

Cheryl McIntyre has been selected for North Dakota’s National Federation of High School’s Outstanding Music Educator Award. Nominations for the NFHS Outstanding Music Educator Awards are solicited from the NFHS’s 50 state contacts. The awards were first given in 1989.

McIntyre has been sharing her love and knowledge of music with students of all ages for more than 20 years. After starting her career teaching music to elementary and middle school students in South Dakota, McIntyre has moved on to direct successful choirs at Jamestown High School. She directs three choirs at Jamestown where she currently serves as head of the music department. She also directs a show choir and the JHS Blue Jazz ensemble and teaches music theory. Her choir was named the Governor’s Choir in 2009 and has received numerous star and excellent ratings at regional and state music festivals. Many of her students have been chosen to perform in regional, state and national honor choirs.

McIntyre has been an adjudicator at state music festivals for more than 10 years and she is the organizing chair for the North Dakota All State Music Festivals.

McIntyre has a Bachelor of Music Education and an English degree from Northern State University, Aberdeen, S.D., and a Master of Music Education from Minnesota State University, Mankato, Minn.
