A Jamestown man, who was recently given his spot in the Jamestown Bowling Hall of Fame, has elected to give the honor to his brother.
Most keglers in Jamestown know Kevin “Bubba” Miller and most probably know his brother Marlowe Miller, who was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
“I think I’ve earned hall of fame status because of the things I’ve done over the years,” Bubba said. “But because of his illness and what’s happened to him I thought it was something special and I wanted to do it.”
Bubba and Marlowe have bowled in Jamestown for the past 35 years. Even in the basement of the Brass Rail at an alley known as The Ditch.
The duo have been teammates and adversaries over the past 35 years, but Marlowe couldn’t make it to the awards banquet Tuesday as he felt under the weather after chemotherapy.
“I think he’s going to be overjoyed,” Bubba said of his brother when he plans to give him the award. “I really wish he could have been here.”
Bubba himself though received the honor after decades of service, as a member of the association’s board of directors, and also work in lane certification.
“I put a lot of years in way back as serving the Men’s Bowling Association,” Bubba said.
He said he continues bowling because it’s a fun event, you can participate in the winter and you can meet great people while doing it.
As for giving his honor to his brother, Bubba said Marlowe deserves it.
“It’s just one of those things,” he said.
