Optimist Club honors athletes
Jamestown High School’s Kyra Dewald and Danny Fischer, along with Jamestown College’s, D.J. Johnson and Kacy Gardiner, were all named Athletes of the Week by the Jamestown Optimist Club.
Jamestown High School’s Kyra Dewald and Danny Fischer, along with Jamestown College’s, D.J. Johnson and Kacy Gardiner, were all named Athletes of the Week by the Jamestown Optimist Club.
Dewald, a junior catcher on the Blue Jay softball team, went 6-for-9 at the plate with 5 runs scored in two games against Bismarck High on Saturday. Dewald also threw out a runner trying to steal late in the second game to help the Blue Jays defeat the Demons 14-11.
Fischer, a senior on the Blue Jay baseball team, hit .444 and scored 5 runs, drew 6 walks and had 2 RBIs as the Jays split their western weekend series.
Johnson, a junior pitcher on the Jimmie softball team, pitched her way to a 3-0 record for the week with a 2.70 ERA. The Missoula, Mont. native struck out 11 while raising her season record to 11-2.
Gardiner, a junior pitcher on the Jimmie baseball team, earned a win and a no-decision in two appearances last week. The Boise, Idaho native pitched 7 1/3 innings of shutout ball, giving up only 4 hits and striking out seven.
