Scammers have been trying to solicit money from people in Stutsman County by using people posing as relatives, according to Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser.
“They have a kid call and say ‘this is your grandson, I need money’ and they try to get you to wire money,” Kaiser said.
Two cases were reported on Thursday. The sheriff said the scammers will go to great lengths to try and get people to wire money, including claiming injury or imprisonment.
Kaiser said do not wire money and ask for specifics like a date of birth from someone claiming to be a relative.
