Cardinal girls win Lloyd Memorial

The Carrington girls’ track & field team dominated the Lloyd Memorial Invitational in Fessenden on Tuesday. The Cardinals’ 146 team points was 69 points better than the second-place finishing Rugby Panthers, who put up 77 points.

The Carrington girls’ track & field team dominated the Lloyd Memorial Invitational in Fessenden on Tuesday.

The Cardinals’ 146 team points was 69 points better than the second-place finishing Rugby Panthers, who put up 77 points.

Carrington’s defending state Class B javelin champion, senior Sierra Rosenau, handily won the event, throwing a state-qualifying heave of 141-7. Kayla Hochhalter won the shot put for the Cards, with a state-qualifying mark of 38-7.

Carrington sprinter Josey Page won the 100 in a state-qualifying time of 12.44, while the Cardinals also won and posted state-qualifying marks in the 800 and 1600 relays.

Central Prairie’s Courtney Heupel was a dual winner at the meet. Heupel won both the 400 (1:00.69 SQ) and the 200 (26.94).

The Rugby boys (167) rolled to the team title, with Carrington (110) placing second.

Seth Abaurrea won the 100 for the Cardinals in a time of 11.52, while Carrington’s Scott Burnham won the long jump with a leap of 20-6.

Kidder County’s Zach Six won both the 400 (51.98 SQ) and the 200 (23.78).
