Bravo to creation of trail system

The Jamestown Sun hands out these bravos this week:

* Bravo to Howard “Howie” Haupt of Jamestown, who recently received the Christ Gums Memorial Dakota Angler of the Year Award.

* Bravo to Bill Steinmetz and his son, Carson, for their work to create a new trail system near Jamestown Dam. The Split Rock and Overlook trails are located at the east bank of Jamestown Reservoir and north of the reservoir’s swimming area. The trails will give residents and visitors more choices in trails for walking and biking along with another way to experience the reservoir.

* Bravo that Stutsman County received more than $2 million from the state of North Dakota for roads and highways. The funds must be used for “extraordinary road maintenance.” The one-time grant will be used for roads damaged by flooding in recent years. Although it’s not a long-term answer to help the county with its issues for road funding, it will help with some critical needs for the county and townships.

* Bravo to those people, organizations and businesses that contributed to the success of a fundraiser on April 28 to raise money toward the purchase of a remote operated vehicle for local law enforcement. The daylong fundraiser raised about $20,000. The ROV costs about $75,000 and Leanne Buckley, who organized the event, plans to continue to raise funds toward that purchase.

* Bravo that Bobcat Co. plans to expand its operations in Bismarck, bringing 200 jobs to the city. The expansion is expected to be complete by 2014.
