Fiber-optic network to extend into northwestern ND

Regional communication services provider Midcontinent Communications is extending its fiber-optic network into northwest North Dakota's booming oil patch.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Regional communication services provider Midcontinent Communications is extending its fiber-optic network into northwest North Dakota's booming oil patch.

The Sioux Falls-based company and North Dakota officials announced the $3 million project Monday. It will extend the multi-state Northern Plains Network from Minot to Williston. Gov. Jack Dalrymple says the Bakken Extension project will help meet the digital needs of growing communities in western North Dakota.

Midcontinent President and CEO Pat McAdaragh says the project will be funded with private investment dollars. He says it will mean greatly expanded and faster telecommunications services.
