West Fargo is among the top teams in the East Region and showed why Monday against the Blue Jays.
The Packers did not drop a set en route to 9-0 win over Jamestown High School at Bolinger Courts.
“Give West Fargo credit. They’re a quality team with quality players at all levels,” JHS coach Pat Mullowney said. “They’re well-coached and you tip your hat.
“They’re one of best teams in the state and they showed it today.”
The Blue Jays weren’t overwhelmed skill-wise, but the Packers make few mistakes and are technically sound.
“It wasn’t that we were particularly overmatched, we just continue to struggle with consistency and unforced errors and against teams and players of that caliber, you can’t make a lot of unforced errors. They’re just too good,” Mullowney said.
Kara Fix at No. 2 and Jenna Reed at No. 4 each led in their second sets, but couldn’t finish it off.
“(Kara and Jenna) threatened. They were hanging, but we couldn’t quite get over the hump,” Mullowney said.
The Packers also were solid in doubles, showing few chinks in the armor.
“Fundamentally they’re tough. They don’t make a lot of mistakes, but we want to play teams like that,” Mullowney said. “Hopefully it makes up better and we’ll keep working at it and hopefully see the fruits of our labor down the road.”
The Jays have the long trip west this weekend, playing at Williston Friday and Dickinson Saturday.
