Ariz. Sen. John McCain to speak at ND GOP event

Arizona senator and Republican presidential candidate John McCain has agreed to speak at a North Dakota Republican event in June.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Arizona senator and Republican presidential candidate John McCain has agreed to speak at a North Dakota Republican event in June.

Republicans are holding their annual “roundup” in Fargo June 8-9. North Dakota Republican spokesman Matt Becker says McCain will speak on June 9.

Becker says the rally's location and the time of McCain's speech will be announced later.

McCain was first elected to the Senate in 1986. He was the GOP presidential candidate in 2008. McCain lost to Democrat Barack Obama.

The 75-year-old McCain is a Navy veteran and former prisoner of war in North Vietnam.
