The sirens and severe weather alert process in Stutsman County worked as planned Wednesday, according to Jerry Bergquist, Stutsman County emergency manager.

A test of the weather alert system was initiated by the National Weather Service Wednesday morning.

“The whole process went according to plan,” Bergquist said. “All the sirens in the Jamestown system worked as well as the sirens in Medina, Buchanan, Streeter and Cleveland.”

The test originated from the National Weather Service about four minutes later than originally planned, which caused the sirens to sound about 11:19 a.m.

The test was part of North Dakota Severe Summer Weather Awareness week and was intended to increase the public’s awareness of potentially hazardous summer weather as well as test the sirens operations.
