ND oil patch bracing for influx of students
A study requested by the governor estimates that schools in western North Dakota's booming oil patch need to prepare for an influx of more than 3,000 students — more than half of them in Williston.
DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) — A study requested by the governor estimates that schools in western North Dakota's booming oil patch need to prepare for an influx of more than 3,000 students — more than half of them in Williston.
The study done by a Bismarck consultant at the request of Gov. Jack Dalrymple also says schools might need almost $100 million for facilities, as well as new teachers and equipment.
The state Department of Public Instruction plans to take a count of students in September. Governor spokesman Jeff Zent tells The Dickinson Press that North Dakota State University also is doing a student enrollment study in the oil patch that should be finished late this year.
