Former rural fire chief will plead guilty to theft

The former fire chief of the Belcourt Rural Fire Department says he will plead guilty to theft of government property.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The former fire chief of the Belcourt Rural Fire Department says he will plead guilty to theft of government property.

Authorities say Francis Demery retitled into his own name a 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck he was using in his official capacity, and also used the vehicle for collateral on a loan.

The charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. The government says it will recommend a sentence of probation and restitution for the value of the pickup.
