Families and adults of all denominations are welcome at the Jamestown United Pentecostal Church’s Kidz Crusade, which will feature music, puppetry and parables especially geared toward children.

“Children are the future of the church,” said Melea Boles, Sunday school co-director. “(We can) help them to, at a young age, build that relationship with God.”

Bruce and Jami Borlik and their three daughters, Bethany, Holley and Melaney, will use children’s music, puppetry and “a whole lot of comedy,” Bruce said, to bring children and families closer to Jesus.

“What we do is universal, and it appeals to children and adults,” Bruce said. “A child can understand, and an adult would be entertained enough to receive the message as well.”

Much of the Borlik family’s presentation is visual, so it would especially appeal to children age 4 to 12, Bruce said. Often the humor is enough to get even teenagers with too-cool attitudes to let their guards down.

“Be prepared to laugh,” Bruce said.

The Kidz Crusade will feature three services — one at 7:30 p.m. May 11, one at 2 p.m. May 12 and a third at 10 a.m. May 13, all at Jamestown United Pentecostal Church, 1201 Sixth Ave. SE.

At the child-friendly services, kids will be able to interrupt and ask questions, said Greg Boles, Sunday school co-director.

“These kids, they exhibit life. They force you to be honest,” Greg said. “They don’t hide very much, and they provide energy, they make you smile and … that’s one of the foundations of the church, is reaching and teaching the word of God and who Jesus is.”

A church van is available to give people rides if needed. Weather permitting, refreshments will be served outdoors following the Sunday session.
