A ninth-inning rally fell short for the Jimmies on Friday as they fell to Mayville State 6-5 in loser-out play at the A.I.I. Tournament in San Marcos, Calif.

The Jimmies, who finished the season at 32-16-1, loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth with one out, but Victor Sokolofsky wiggled off the hook as the Comets stayed alive.

The Jimmies took a 3-1 lead on Nico Moreno’s bases-loaded double in the bottom of the third.

Tied 3-all, they went up 4-3 in the fifth on an RBI single by Moreno.

Their final lead came in the seventh when Max Boe singled in Spencer Flaten with two outs to break a 4-4 tie.

The Comets rallied in the eighth, however, scoring twice to go up for good.

In the bottom of the ninth the Jimmies loaded the bases with one out, but Sokolofsky struck out Moreno and got Derek Wallace to pop up to end the game.

Moreno was 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs for the Jimmies. Flaten also had two hits and scored twice.

Nick Smart, the third of three JC pitchers, was saddled with the loss.
