Carrington dominates in home meet sweep

The Carrington girls track team put on another dominating display on Saturday.

The Cardinals won nine events plus two relays en route to a 289-point haul at the six-team Carrington Kiwanis/Lions meet.

Josey Page blitzed the sprints, winning the 100 (12.36), 200 (25.97) and 400 (59.90) all in state-qualifying times. On top of that she ran away from the field in the 300 hurdles (47.81).

Her only competition came from teammates. Jacey Engelhorn was second in both the 100 and 200. Hannah Lipetzky was third in the 200 and 400.

Maartje VanBedaf was second in both hurdle races. Madison Wendel won the 100 hurdles (16.0), beating the state-qualifying time.

Wendel also notched a win in the high jump (4-11) and was second in the triple.

The Cardinals were 1-2 in all three throwing events.

Kayla Hochhalter won the discus (116-2) and shot (36-9) — state-qualifying marks both.

Sierra Rosenau won the javelin (138-8) and was second in the discus. Carly Copenhaver was second only to Hochhalter in the shot.

Carrington also got runner-up performances by Ann Endres (3200) and Ashley Neumiller (mile).

The Cardinals sprint relay team ran a 51.60 to qualify.

Cassidy Weber of New Rockford-Sheyenne won the pole vault, clearing 7-6.

Carrington’s boys got a decent challenge from Rugby, 185-147.

Scott Burnham’s double of the long jump (19-4) and high jump (5-10) led the way.

Seth Abaurrea (11.43) and Cole Ferguson (11.58) went 1-2 in the 100.

Cole Hendrickson’s 23.90 took the 200.

Lane Anderson was second in the pole vault (9-6).

In the mile, Jacob Eberle (5:16.47) and Chaz Bauer (5:23.78) gave the Cardinals the top two finishers.

Harvey-Wells County had a pair of winners.

Martin Stumpf was first in the 300 hurdles (43.59) and second in the open 400 (53.96).

Alex Lies had the top half-mile time of 2:14.64.

New Salem-Almont Invite

Kidder County-Napoleon’s Zach Six finished the 400-meter dash in a time of 52.64 seconds en route to first-place honors at the New Salem-Almont Invitational on Saturday at the Community Bowl.

Six helped KC-N to an eighth-place finish with 35 points at the meet, which was host to 26 teams. Bowman County won the invite with 81 points.

Six also finished fifth in the 200 with a 23.98. KC-N placed second and third in the 400 and 800 relays with times of 46.42 and 1:35.88, respectively.

Jason Horner of South Border took second in the shot put (45 feet, 6 inches) and seventh in the discus with a 118-4.

Linton-HMB’s Tanner Purintun placed third in the 110 hurdles with a 17.05 and fourth in the high jump with a mark of 5-8.

Strasburg’s Kelsie Silvernagel won the long jump by leaping 15-11. Teammate Courtney Bubach added a third-place finish in the 300 hurdles (48.57) and fourth place in the short hurdles (16.94) to help her team take the final spot in the top 10 with 31 points.

KC-N was sixth with 46 points, well behind meet-winner Hazen’s 89. The Pirates won the 1,600 relay with a time of 4:25.56. Jamie Blotter and Sadie Rohrich played a big part, running a 2:30.54 for third place in the 800 and finishing in 48.56 seconds for runner-up in the hurdles, respectively.

Wing captured the 3,200 relay title in a time of 10:49.88, helped out by Kate Fox, who also placed second in the 3,200 with a 12:30.92.

Central Prairie’s Courtney Heupel ran a 1:01.43, good for third in the 400. Her 2:34.72 also got her sixth in the 800.
