An escapee from the North Dakota State Hospital had about 30 minutes of freedom this morning.

Vance Mey, 18, a resident of the secure services unit at the State Hospital escaped at about 9:30 a.m. and was captured by law enforcement officers about 10 a.m. in a ravine along the Buffalo Scenic Road.

Scott Edinger, Jamestown police chief, credited a tip from the public for locating Mey quickly and said he surrendered without incident.

“He was soaking wet and it’s about 50 degrees out,” Edinger said. “He didn’t put up a fight.”

Edinger said Mey was returned to the State Hospital.
