Game and Fish pays counties for land

The North Dakota Game and Fish Department said it has paid just under $485,000 to counties in which it owns or leases land, about $20,000 more than the previous year.

BISMARCK (AP) — The North Dakota Game and Fish Department said it has paid just under $485,000 to counties in which it owns or leases land, about $20,000 more than the previous year.

The payments are in lieu of property taxes. The 2011 payments ranged from less than $100 in Ward County to more than $60,000 in Sheridan County.

Game and Fish manages more than 200,000 acres in 50 counties for wildlife habitat and public hunting.
