More students in archery tourney
A total of 336 archers competed in the North Dakota National Archery in the Schools program state tournament April 13-14 in Bismarck.
A total of 336 archers competed in the North Dakota National Archery in the Schools program state tournament April 13-14 in Bismarck.
Jeff Long, NASP coordinator for the State Game and Fish Department, said the number of participants was up 14 percent from last year.
The high school (grades 9-12) state championship team was from Dunseith, and the middle school (grades 7-8) champs were from Medina. The top team in the elementary school (grades 4-6) division was from Hankinson. Each winning team received a trophy and five dozen arrows. Also, each first-place team received a $2,500 travel grant for committing to represent North Dakota at the national tournament in Louisville, Ky.
Among the top five place winners in each division were several archers from this area, who received commemorative coins. The archers, listed with their schools, were:
High school boys: Cody Beach, Barnes County North; and Michael Maertens, Griggs County North.
High school girls: Shayla Zaun and Kayla Feiring, Griggs County Central.
Middle school boys: Evan Trostad, Jacob Heinz, Logan Kensok and Jayden Grover, Griggs County Central.
Middle school girls: Maddy Vincent, Griggs County Central; and Hannah Willson, Barnes County North.
Elementary boys: Tyler Johnson, Griggs County Central.
Elementary girls: Hope Willson, Barnes County North; and Lauren Moser, Medina.
